Frequently asked questions

Custom and personalized orders

I am currently accepting requests for custom orders, please message me and we can discuss to see if what you are looking for is possible!

Where do you get your butterflies/moths?

All my pieces are environmentally sustainable. What exactly does that mean? I get these beautiful creatures from various farms who breed butterflies specifically for research, education, and art purposes then release a percentage into the wild to help with conservation. None of my pieces use butterflies or moths that are wild-caught and therefore deplete the population. Please feel free to message me with any questions regarding sourcing. Fluttering Frames aims to be as transparent as possible about sourcing so you can make a fully informed decision before purchasing.

Why did my order come with milkweed seeds?

All purchases come with a common milkweed seed ball.

Milkweed is the only plant that sustains monarch butterflies through each of their life stages. Monarchs lay their eggs specifically on milkweed, and the caterpillars feed on the leaves until they leave the plant to form chrysalises. Without milkweed, there can be no monarchs & monarchs are currently endangered!

Simply throw the seed bombs onto bare soil. With a little water, plenty of sunlight and compost, your seed bombs will germinate and become a beautiful haven for Monarch butterflies!

** note that the provided seeds are of common milkweed, please check before planting to make sure it is a species native to your area! **

Can you tell me more about your conservation efforts?

I aim to promote the conservation and protection of the world's butterfly/moth population through my art. Some of the ways I hope to help conservation efforts include:

1. 15% of each month's proceeds are donated to organizations working to help the monarch butterfly such as the Monarch Butterfly Fund. The monarch butterfly is currently an endangered species.

2. Each purchase comes with common milkweed seeds I encourage you to plant in your gardens/yards.

Care instructions

Please display your piece in a dry, cool area of your home and keep the frame closed at all times. If you plan on storing the piece in a dark area for a long period of time, please use moth balls to prevent beetles or lice from feeding on the parts.
